Preston the Genius

Since we've been doing "Mommy School" instead of preschool this semester, Preston has soared with learning. He loves to ask questions and especially loves doing math problems. Here he is reading one of his first stories to me back in Januuary. These "BOB" books have been a great resource! He's now finished the series and is amazing me with what he can read. When he shocks me with something he reads, he says, "I'm a genius!"

I'll post a new reading video later, but he has reached his goal of reading before he turns 5 and we're quite proud. Now we have to follow through with a "deal" we made him at Christmas- to buy him a gameboy for his birthday! (He's actually getting a Nintendo DS, but shhhh, it's going to be a huge surprise to him!)

I also took a video of him going through addition flashcards but it's too long to post. I'll have to cut it down. Until then, just know he's pretty amazing with those math facts, too.

Four-Leaf Clovers

It's St. Patrick's Day and Haylee just happened upon a four-leaf clover in our backyard! Well, she does have a bit of Irish in her, so the luck is proving itself today!

We're looking into ways to press and preserve it.

Here's a picture of our house from a rain in February. The picture doesn't do justice to the beautiful, double rainbow in the sky, but our neighbor caught the angle so that it looked like it was ending at our house. I thought it was appropriate to display on this holiday. Too bad there's no pot of gold here!

March Madness

No, this has nothing to do with basketball. It's quite crazy to experience snow and shorts within the same week, so I've named it appropriately- madness! Last week, the kids missed a day of school due to snow that was on the ground for 3 days. Then a warm front came through and we were in shorts two days later! The weekend was a beautiful 78 degrees.

We're still experiencing the warm weather but a cold front with rain shows up tomorrow! The kids are tracked out and we'd planned a trip to the Outer Banks this weekend- Wright Brothers, kite flying, lighthouses, aquarium- but we're not going if we can't keep dry and warm. So, I suppose we'll settle for the dollar movie and a promised trip to Chuck-e-Cheese for vacation entertainment.
