Job Lost- Job Found

It's been one interesting month.
September 3rd- Darrin was laid off from the job that moved us 1200 miles. They worked him harder than a computer nerd should have to work! They moved him into a manager position that demanded even more of his attention. His Blackberry became known as the "crack"berry around our house because he was constantly reading emails and updates that was going on in the company, stepping in to help as he could. We knew another 'round' of layoffs was going to happen that day, but really didn't expect Darrin to be on the list. (After all, we've been through this twice already!!) Over 40 employees were let go in order to meet the investors' "numbers". Many of them were middle management like him. Now, what was an incredible amount of work for 6 DBA's to do is now left to 4 and they're all freaking out because Darrin ran the group. He calls it a mercy killing, otherwise, he'd be left with all of the work and he already worked TOO MUCH!
??Now what to do?? Do we find another job in the Raleigh area or back towards Texas? We really love NC but hate being so far from family. We decided it would be best to stay put for a while longer.
September 19th- Darrin accepted a job with a small company just around the corner from his old company. The enviroment is apparently laid back, the on- call duty is supposedly light and he got a small pay raise. We'll be able to pay off my car with his severance package. It turns out that this small trial has been a huge blessing! Less work and more money! Well, we'll see about the "less work" part.
