Is May Over Yet??

Even with my attempt to make this short and sweet, there is so much to report. I have a ton going on that needs my attention, but I'm insisting that I keep up with this family journal! My student recitals are coming up this next week, so I'm crazy busy getting everything ready along with making out my summer teaching schedule. I currently have 32 students but will have around 22 in June. YEA!

The week began with character awards at school. Hannah received the "Self Discipline" award. Her teacher says that she is very self-motivated and keeps herself and others on task. I'm not surprised at all! Congratulations, Hannah!

Haylee received the "Self Discipline" and "Perserverance" awards for her progress made this year with her ADD struggles. She has worked hard to focus and complete assignments and has had a wonderfully empathetic teacher working with her. Way to go, Haylee! We wish her luck on her end-of-grade testing this week. I've included a pic of some of her good friends. (Mom, you were asking about her height...)

Haylee also decided it was time to cut her hair off. Well, really, I finally agreed to it. She was trying to grow it out to donate, but the required 8 inch ponytail wasn't quite there and I was tired of the long showers and never-ending tangles. She asked me on Wednesday night if it was long enough yet and that she was ready to cut it. We measured, but was still about an inch shy from where she was willing to cut it off. After some more confirming conversation, I got the scissors and spent over an hour trimming it to the jaw length you now see. She loves it and I'm glad to have one less thing to nag her about! I snagged these pictures of her checking on her zinnias that she's growing from seeds.

Preston attended his first father-son camp out with church. He talked about it all week with great excitement and anticipation. Darrin was quite frustrated that all Preston wanted to do was sit in the tent. Forget talking and playing with the other men and boys, he wanted to get in his sleeping bag at 9:00 while everyone else was still up talking. Well, Preston laid there talking until 11:30, but was happy to be surrounded by the tent.

The Preston Crack-Up: Over the past few weeks, Preston has also been working on snapping his fingers and finally has it down. He constantly walks around snapping. Seriously- anytime he gets up to move, the fingers start up unless his hands are full. Darrin and I tease and say, "Who am I?" while snapping as we walk across the room.

Darrin played paintball for the first time on Saturday. His company paid for the event and he had a ton of fun. When he got home, he had a few welts that have now begun to bruise, but he said "playing army" was all worth the pain. (Pics to come later.)

Our neighborhood pool is open and the H.O. had a pizza party on Saturday. The water was too cold for me and Darrin, but the kids had a good time.
And finally, Happy Mother's Day!! Darrin and the kids made the traditional pecan waffles for me this morning then grilled some burgers tonight. I've had a nice, easy day!
