Recital Week

Finally, I can look back on the week and say, "It's over!" Recital week is always hectic as last-minute preparations take place. I already had the certificates printed, but still had to get 4 different programs typed and printed, "treat" bags bought and filled, (this is my way of getting out of a reception) and many other details.

The theme was "Aiming High", so I decorated with stars and had one of my favorite sayings on the wall behind the performers: "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars." To keep with the theme, the performers took home a goodie bag with SUN chips, MOONpies, and STARburts. It was cute and my students did pretty well. I was especially proud of two piano students named Haylee and Hannah. When we get the video digitalized, I'll add their performances. We celebrated the conclusion of my busy day by eating Hibachi Express for dinner and seeing Iron Man. (it's very good)

Darrin is usually available to be my recital stage manager and videographer, but his company schedule a big system upgrade this weekend and he worked all night on Friday. He was quite tired on Saturday. I sent him home to rest and the work project is still experiencing problems that he has to deal with as a manager. Today wasn't much easier...He also was asked to speak on service at church today, prepare a lesson and I had 2 choir rehearsals. One of those was with 15 or so young men who, with the help of prayers and singing angels, pulled off the song that they were asked to sing today!

I write all of this to remind myself that even though my house is a wreck, we've still accomplished much this week. I hope I can catch back up as the calendar is full of end-of-school activities/programs.
Haylee has great news: She received a "4" (highest marks) on her statewide writing test. Only one other student in her class received this grade. We are so proud of her. She is a great writer. She had testing in Math and Reading this week to see if she passes 4th grade. She already received her grade in Math, and to our surprise she got a 3*. She dislikes math and could have passed with a 2. Yea for Haylee!
Preston also celebrated his birthday at preschool. I took Spiderman cupcakes for his classmates to enjoy, but he has picked Iron Man as his REAL birthday party theme. Throughout this week, I've had all sorts of issues trying to schedule a pool party as he requested, so just as of this afternoon, he agreed to have it at a park. Yea! Now this will be the project of next week!
