The farm is only about 3 miles from our house. They have some horses, goats, peacocks and other small animals that the kids were facinated over. We spent about 1 1/2 hours picking and totalled around 30 pounds of strawberries. It's important to wash and prepare them immediately, so it's an all day event!
Darrin did most of the washing and hulling while I ran my new food processor (early Mother's Day gift). I froze some of them whole, some chopped and some pureed. Then we began the jam- 5 batches! After chopping 25 cups of berries, measuring 35 cups of sugar and handling boiling hot jars, we produced 20 pints of wonderful jam. I'd post a picture of our finished project, but we were too tired to get the camera back out! We'll keep about half to eat all year and give away the rest. They make great gifts for neighbors, teachers, etc. Darrin has already promised some to co-workers.
The kids were quite patient as Darrin and I were on our feet in the kitchen all day. We rewarded ourselves with a family movie night watching Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Yummy!! How fun would that be to go pick your own strawberries!! They look like good ones too. Your jam from last year was excellent - so I'm very envious of whoever is lucky enough to get it from you this year!!
And good choice on the movie - Cameron has really been into Indiana Jones lately!

WOW! that looks like so much fun. Actually I know so, we went strawberry picking once before and the kids had fun. But, your strawberry looks so fresh and 30 pounds--that's ALOT. I wish I could taste some of those yummy jam. Glad you are all doing well. Miss ya here.

So fun! When I was growing up our family would go strawberry picking once a summer - and I know firsthand how hard you worked on it! It is definitely an undertaking! Great job... I am sure the jelly tastes SO good - somehow I think the labor of love can be tasted in the jam!
