After a beautiful Friday and Saturday, it was a cool Easter day here. (Who decides when Easter is going to fall each year?? I vote for April when the weather is more consistently spring-like!) The girls' dresses were covered with sweaters and Preston wore a vest sweater and blazer. (Isn't he stylin'??)
The kids enjoyed two egg hunts. Our family one took place on Saturday and in attempts to keep it focused on the true meaning of Easter, this one involved no candy. The girls cut pictures from Church magazines that reminded them of Jesus Christ. Then they folded the pictures and stuffed about 20 eggs. The I bought Honeycomb cereal and Goldfish crackers to represent the meal of fish and honeycomb. Preston enjoyed stuffing another 20 or so eggs with these snacks. Then we left one egg empty to represent the empty tomb. It would be the special egg to find. They hunted the eggs around the house on Saturday evening and I was thrilled at the result. This made for a reverent time to sit and take turns opening the eggs and showing the pictures and discussing their relevance to Easter. Hannah ended up with the empty egg. I felt good that they enjoyed some healthier treats and we'll definitely make this a yearly tradition.
The second hunt was on Sunday morning, of course, and the kids were disappointed that the Easter Bunny didn't leave a mess of jelly beans as usual. In fact, he left very little jelly beans at all. The kids didn't like hearing that I left a message for the E.B. that we were trying to cut back on our sugar intake and that all we needed were some M&M's!!!!
We attended our church meetings and had a nice musical service that I conducted. The choir sang 4 songs, the primary kids sang 1 and the young women sang 1, so I was pretty stressed out trying to get all of that prepared. Hannah also gave a talk in Primary and Preston said his first prayer in front of all of the kids. He didn't want any help! We ended the day with a yummy ham and chocolate pie.
