I'm trying to catch up on the many updates that happen to us over 2 weeks, so feel free to take your time through all of these posts.
I thought I'd educate you on what can happen if you wear your contacts too long and your eyes don't get enough oxygen. I wish I'd taken a picture of Darrin's eyes last weekend- beyond bloodshot, as if he had pink eye, but didn't. He said they didn't hurt or itch, but he took out his contacts thinking they were getting old.
The eye doctor said that he had blood vessels where there shouldn't be blood vessels in his eyes, meaning they were deprived of oxygen. He can't wear contacts for at least 3 months, because if one of these vessels burst, he would go blind in that eye. Hopefully, all will look good by Thanksgiving and he can begin to wear his contacts for small periods of time. In the meantime, we've got to order some glasses that aren't in the fashion style of 1993!
I remember a previous eye doctor telling me to wear my glasses for a while in the morning or evening, but never thought it was this important! We think that the many all-nighters he is pulling at work on the weekends may have kicked his eyes over the edge. Who would have thought a Database Manager position should carry workman's comp? But all contact wearers out there- beware of this condition.

I started developing these vessels at age fourteen because an optomitrist wouldn't let me have glasses at all (he figured this would make my nearsightedness slow down)! I wore contacts for three years straight without any break except at night. My mom took my to an opthamologist who proceeded to freak out. WOW!!! I've never heard of anyone else having that happen and so severely! Good reminder to all of us to let our eyes breath. Hope he's doing well!
Oh my goodness, Darrin. I am glad you went to the doctor and didn't just assume it was pink eye! You should see if your insurance will cover LASIK!!
